Norm Eisen Says Michael Cohen ‘Much More Dangerous’ After Coming Clean: He ‘Knows Where the Bodies Are Buried’

Michael Cohen may be clearing his conscience with a new plea deal. However, his answers about President Donald Trump‘s dealings with Russia, according to former White House Ethics Czar Norm Eisen, may spell trouble for the commander in chief.

During a Thursday evening appearance on CNN, Eisen told host Chris Cuomo that the longtime fixer’s flip could prove damning for his old boss.

“You have somebody who’s in Trump’s innermost circle for so long, Chris, who’s known as his fixer, who knows where the bodies are buried, who’s stepping up and admitting that he lied to Congress to cover up the continued business dealings between Donald Trump and the Trump organization during the campaign when Trump had already clinched the nomination,” Eisen said.

The crucial questions, he noted, now surround Cohen’s motivation to lie in the first place and place his own self in the line of legal fire. Now that he’s supposedly being honest and cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation for dozens of hours, Eisen feels he’s a bigger threat than before.

“He’s a much more dangerous witness.”

Trump After Dershowitz’s Appearance on Hannity: ‘Mueller Refuses to Look at the Real Crimes’

Speaking to Sean Hannity on Thursday, legal scholar Alan Dershowitz insisted that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has gone beyond looking for crimes and is now looking for “political sin.”

Dershowitz’s response came after the Fox News host asked this: “I interviewed [Julian] Assange. He said he didn’t get it from Russia. No state party etc… Maybe, we know Hillary’s computer is in the bathroom closet were hacked by at least six foreign intelligence services if not more. So my question to you is, based on that…If they didn’t hack and it was given to them from sources doesn’t it mean that what they printed is legal?”

Dershowitz replied, “Absolutely.”

He added: “The president has the same authority and the president’s campaign has the same authority as The New York Times and Washington Post. They are allowed to print material that they know was stolen as long as they didn’t tell the people to steal it or give them directions how to hack. Nobody alleges that of the president’s campaign. Therefore, they have completely the right to do it.”

Then pointing fingers at Mueller, Dershowitz opined: “The problem is Mueller is straying away from his mandate to find crime and he is now looking for political sin. Building buildings in Moscow, using stolen material from Assange. These are not crimes. He has no authority to be a roving commissioner to find political sins. So far, I don’t see any evidence of crimes except for ones that he helped to facilitate by getting people to lie in front of his own investigators.”

Shortly after the Hannity segment aired. Trump tweeted about it.

“This is an illegal Hoax that should be ended immediately. Mueller refuses to look at the real crimes on the other side. Where is the IG REPORT?” Trump wrote after quoting what Dershowitz said to Hannity.

Donald Trump Jr. Reportedly ‘Very Worried’ He Might Be the Next to Be Indicted in Mueller Probe

Donald Trump Jr. is reportedly very worried that he may be the next to be indicted in the Mueller probe.

On Thursday, one-time Trump fixer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress and provided details about Donald J. Trump‘s involvement in a proposed Trump Tower Moscow deal.

Cohen’s plea deal also seemingly has the president’s son, Don Jr., worried he might be next to face charges.

Vanity Fair reported Thursday night:

Cohen’s plea also re-ignited fears that the president’s son, Don Jr., will be next to be indicted. “Don’s been telling people he’s very worried after today,” a source said. (Don Jr.’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.) Mueller now appears to be driving the West Wing agenda, with the principals in a reactive crouch; there’s a sense of loss of control. “It’s an untethered situation,” a person close to the president said.

In a separate report, Yahoo also reported on Thursday that Mueller is not only eyeing Don Jr. for his involvement in the Trump Tower Moscow deal — which never came to fruition — but also White House advisor and First Daughter Ivanka Trump.

There are also reports that the Trump Tower Moscow deal would have included a $50 million penthouse gifted to Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is unclear if President Donald Trump, or his kids, knew about the planned gift.

Kasich Chides Trump for Retweeting Photo of Enemies Behind Bars: ‘I Thought We Got Over That When Nixon Left’

Reacting to President Donald Trump‘s retweet of a photo depicting his enemies behind bars, Ohio Gov. John Kasich gave the commander in chief a lesson in civility, chiding him for echoing the repression of the Nixon era.

“I think it’s terrible,” Kasich told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews during an interview Thursday. “The country’s divided enough, and people are hungering… I see it all the time. People are hungering for an end to all this — the name-calling, the chaos.”

The tweet, originally posted by The Trump Train, a fan account for the president, shows his adversaries including the Clintons, President Barack Obama, Special Counsel Robert Mueller and others in a  jail cell. It was shared by Trump on Wednesday.

Kasich noted that personally, his behavior is more restrained than the president’s.

“I got things that make me mad, get me upset,” he said. “I don’t start putting out a list of people that are my enemies or something. I mean, I thought we got over that when Nixon left. No more enemies lists. You got to work with people sometimes even when you don’t like them. It’s a matter of fact. It’s life.”

Mueller Reportedly Looking at Ivanka Trump’s Involvement With Trump Tower Moscow

Donald Trump Jr. is not the only Trump offspring who is reportedly being looked at by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in relation to the Trump Tower Moscow deal.

Ivanka Trump, who is also a White House Advisor, is also being eyed by the Special Counsel for her involvement in the real estate plan that never came to fruition.

The report comes from Yahoo on the same day as former Trump fixer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the proposed real estate deal in Moscow.

Yahoo reports:

Multiple sources have confirmed to Yahoo News that the president’s oldest daughter, Ivanka, who is now a top White House adviser, and his oldest son, Don Jr. were also working to make Trump Tower Moscow a reality. The sources said those efforts were independent of Cohen’s work on a project. One of the sources said Ivanka was also involved in Cohen’s efforts. And a separate source familiar with the investigation told Yahoo News that Mueller has asked questions about Ivanka and Don Jr.’s work on Trump Tower Moscow.

Earlier today, Buzzfeed also reported that there were plans to give Russian President Vladimir Putin a $50 million penthouse in the Moscow project. It is unclear if Trump knew about the proposed gift which, like the tower, never came to be.

WSJ Issues Correction After Accidentally ID’ing Russian President as ‘Vladimir Trump’

Mistakes happen to the best of us, but this one is pretty amazing.

The Wall Street Journal filed an in-depth report on President Donald Trump calling off his meeting with Vladimir Putin, citing Russia’s naval clash with Ukraine.

But scrolling down to the bottom of the report earlier today would’ve led you to this correction:

Vladimir Putin is president of Russia. An editing mistake erroneously identified him as Vladimir Trump in an earlier version of this article.

“Vladimir Trump.”

And some people got a kick out of this one:

The correction currently reads, “Vladimir Putin is president of Russia. An editing mistake misidentified Mr. Putin in an earlier version of this article.”

Michael Cohen Friend Donny Deutsch: He Was ‘Real Linchpin’ in Trump’s ‘Criminal Enterprise’

Following news of Michael Cohen‘s new plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, his longtime friend Donny Deutsch hinted that while he’s in hot water for admittedly lying to Congress, he remains a key Russia probe source from President Donald Trump‘s inner circle.

Appearing on MSNBC Thursday night, Deutsch told host Ari Melber that Trump was “owned” by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with shady business dealings that will be remembered long after his administration ends.

Emphasizing his friend’s role, Deutsch said, “Cohen will be pivotal as the guy that was there front and center for ten years with this business enterprise, with this criminal enterprise, with this criminal family. You’re going to see Michael Cohen be a real linchpin here.”

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Cohen wasn’t truthful about the timeline of Trump’s consideration of building one of his namesake towers in Moscow, previously claiming talks ended in January 2016. In reality, those talks continued into June 2016.

Behind Cohen’s decision to flip on his former boss, Deutsch said, was his change of priorities, placing Trump further down on the list.

“We watched him turn,” Deutsch recalled. “We watched him all of a sudden say, ‘No, I need to help myself, help my family, my country.'”

Now, Deutsch told Melber, Cohen “finally feels that he is kind of on the other side.”

“Yes, he made mistakes and yes, he is going to pay for them. But going from being seen as a bad guy to maybe a guy that’s trying to do the right thing.”

CNN’s Toobin: Trump Could End Speculation About His Mueller Probe Answers and ‘Just Release Them’

On Thursday, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin suggested that there is an easy solution to all the speculation about President Donald Trump‘s answers to Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s questions. Trump could just release the answers himself.

Toobin’s comments came during a discussion of former Trump fixer Michael Cohen‘s disclosures in court and if Trump’s answers will ultimately line up with what Cohen said.

According to Toobin, there was a very easy way to find out and it all centered around Trump.

“Look, what do the president’s answers say?” the CNN legal analyst said. “There’s one way to find out. Why don’t they just release them…There’s nothing barring Donald Trump from releasing his own answers to Mueller’s questions. Release them, and then we can all see if he’s corroborated or not.”

He admitted, though, that a Trump release was unlikely.

“But you can draw your own conclusions for why they won’t do it,” he continued on. “I mean, I just — all this — mystery about what do the answers say, there’s an easy way to find out, or let them just release that answer to that question. I mean, taking Rudy Giuliani‘s word for it, respectfully to our former mayor, I’d rather see the answers.”

Trump Org Reportedly Planned on Giving Putin a Posh $50 Million Penthouse in Trump Tower Moscow

The Trump Organization reportedly planned on giving Russian President Vladimir Putin a posh $50 million penthouse in the planned Trump Tower Moscow.

Buzzfeed, which first reported on the news, cited four people as the source of the information, one of them the originator of the project.

Two of them were also described as “US law enforcement officials.” They told Buzzfeed this: “Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal lawyer at the time, discussed the idea with a representative of Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s press secretary.”

The latest Buzzfeed scoop raises further questions about President Donald Trump‘s relationship with Putin and the Kremlin. However, it is not entirely clear that Trump knew about the plan to give away the prime real estate to Putin personally, although Cohen has testified that he regularly kept Trump apprised of such things.

One thing that is known, though, is that the plan ultimately crumbled and Putin’s penthouse was never built much less gifted to the Russian president.

The news also comes on the same day as Trump’s former fixer Cohen testified in court that he was pursuing a business deal in Russia in June 2016,  after Trump had garnered the Republican nomination.

Trump said beginning in July 2016 that he had no business relations or deals with Russia.

Trump Spends Flight to G20 Plugging Books on Twitter, Including Fox News’ Pirro and Gregg Jarrett

President Donald Trump has not yet rage-tweeted about Michael Cohen, but he appears to be spending his flight on Air Force One to the G-20 by plugging multiple books by allies and supporters.

Trump first gave a plug to Congressman Steve Scalise‘s new book about his recovery and the heroes on the baseball field the day of the shooting:

But he also went on to plug a bunch of political, pro-Trump (and anti-Trump’s enemies) books:

CNN’s Acosta: Source Close to WH Said Michael Cohen’s a ‘Rat’ and ‘Inmates Hate Rats’

As Michael Cohen strikes a new plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, admitting to lying to Congress on President Donald Trump‘s dealings with Russia, CNN’s Jim Acosta said one Washington insider had a warning for the commander in chief’s former fixer.

“The president and [his lawyer] Rudy Giuliani have had some pretty harsh words for Michael Cohen, but they are not alone,’ Acosta said Thursday. “I talked to a source close to the White House earlier today who described Michael Cohen as a ‘rat,’ adding that inmates hate rats.”

Earlier that day, CNN reported that Cohen blamed his lying on his loyalty to Trump, having claimed discussions on building a Trump Tower in Moscow ended back in January 2016. However, Cohen now says the project was weighed for months after that, continuing into June 2016.

But, as Acosta noted, Giuliani has defended the president, claiming his comments to Mueller’s office on the Moscow tower “are consistent with what Michael Cohen has said to the special prosecutors in this case.”

Jake Tapper Presses Judiciary Committee Dem on Cohen News: Where’s the Conspiracy Between Trump and Russia?

CNN’s Jake Tapper pressed Rep. Jerry Nadler, a ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, on whether the latest developments in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe prove any illegal contact between the Trump campaign and Russia.

“Look, this is clearly not welcome news for the president,” Tapper said on The Lead. “But I look at these documents and I don’t see any evidence of conspiracy between members of the Trump team and members of the Russian government to interfere in the election.”

Nadler — who is expected to become the chairman of the committee when the Democrats take control of the House in January — dodged the question, instead claiming Cohen was “negotiating a corrupt business deal in Russia on behalf of the president during the campaign.”

“You call it a corrupt business dealing?” Tapper asked. “Not illegal, you just mean colloquially corrupt.”

“Yes,” Nadler agreed.

“But still no conspiracy?” Tapper pressed.

Nadler countered that while Trump kowtowed to Russia and Vladimir Putin during the 2016 campaign, he was negotiating with the Russian government for his business.

“Sure it stinks, I’m not saying it’s not, but it’s not conspiracy,” Tapper said.

“It may be conspiracy,” Nadler replied.

“Not to interfere with the election,” Tapper noted.

Nadler went on to argue “it’s another point of Trump’s close relationship with the Russians while he was denying it.”

Gov’t Agency Head Reportedly Apologizes to George Soros for Broadcast That Called Him a ‘Multimillionaire Jew’

You may remember from weeks ago, amid growing criticism of anti-Semitic dog-whistling about George Soros, a small news story about a US government-funded news network that ran a segment calling him a “multimillionaire Jew.”

The Spanish-language network TV Martí ran the segment, which was denounced by Senator Jeff Flake as “taxpayer-funded anti-semitism.”

Well, now the Washington Post is reporting that the head of U.S. Agency for Global Media, John Lansing, sent a letter to Soros personally apologizing:

“It was based on extremely poor and unprofessional journalism, and it was utterly offensive in its anti-Semitism and clear bias,” Lansing wrote in the letter to Soros, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post. “I take this breach in our fundamental obligation to provide accurate, balanced, and objective reporting very seriously”…

“Like you, I do not find an article that uses Judicial Watch as its sole source to be remotely credible,” Lansing said. He added that it was “all the more impactful, and regrettable,” that news of the program broke around the time of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, the mailing of pipe bombs to Soros and other prominent critics of Trump, and “other blatantly anti-Semitic attacks on candidates and individuals.”

The journalists involved were put on administrative leave, he added.

Rachel Maddow: Today’s a Very ‘Ominous Moment for the White House’

As Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation churns on, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow suggested Thursday that the consequences for the White House could be worse than initially suspected.

She was reacting to colleague Nicolle Wallace‘s reporting on her afternoon broadcast during which she said that the probe was still under Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein‘s management and direction, and that President Donald Trump “has not involved himself yet in any of [its] machinations.”

Maddow was stunned.

“That is remarkable…and that’s a really big deal,” she told Wallace, noting that she wondered whether Mueller was “somehow throttled compared to how he used to be able to conduct his investigation and pursue prosecutions related to this matter.”

“Is he unable to bring new indictments because Matt Whitaker won’t approve them? Is he unable to take other major steps? Is he acting the way that we’ve seen over the past few days with the sort of augmentation of the situation that he’s got with Paul Manafort? The friction now with Manafort? The rescinding of his plea deal? Opening this new line within the Michael Cohen inquiry?”

Just hours before Maddow and Wallace spoke, it was reported that Cohen, Trump’s former fixer, had worked out a new plea deal with Mueller, admitting to lying to Congress. Earlier this week, Manafort, who chaired the president’s 2016 campaign, was accused of lying to the special counsel, thus breaking his plea deal.

Though there are concerns that Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker could attempt to interfere in Mueller’s investigation, Maddow implied that might not be the case.

“It actually makes me feel like this must be a much more ominous moment for the White House because if Mueller is proceeding without being throttled or stymied and proceeding at this kind of a pace, rolling out this stuff right now, everything is aiming right at the president personally and that’s got to be very unsettling for them,” she said.
