15-Year-Old Arrested After Kentucky High School Shooting Leaves Two Students Dead, 19 Wounded (UPDATED)

A high school shooting in western Kentucky left two students dead and 17 more wounded on Tuesday morning.

The shooter, a 15-year-old male student at Marshall County High School, was arrested at the scene, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin said at a press conference.

He has not been identified, and will be charged with murder and attempted murder.

The young boy opened fire with a handgun around 8:57 a.m., officials said, as students assembled in a common area before classes.

Of the two deaths, one 15-year-old girl was killed immediately, and a 15-year-old boy died later at a nearby hospital.

“It is unbelievable that this would happen in a small, close-knit community like Marshall County,” Bevin said in a statement. “This is a tremendous tragedy and speaks to the heartbreak present in our communities.”

Bevin issued this tweet as reports started to come out about the shooting:
