Devin Nunes Twitter-Trolls by Asking ‘Russian Bots’ to Help Make Federalist Piece Go Viral

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) took to Twitter to offer up a strange bit of mockery that seems to suggest he does not believe in the existence of Russian social media bots.

It all started when Nunes, fresh off of his infamous world-shattering memo, urged his Twitter followers to tweet out a story published by The Federalist, which strikes down the notion of Russian bots as a conspiracy theory peddled by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-MA.)

“If you are a Russian Bot, please make this go viral,” he joked. “If you’re not a Russian Bot, you will become one if you retweet.”

Of course, the allegations that Russia helped to influence the 2016 election are nearly indisputable by this point. Twitter noted last month that 50,000 Russia-affiliated bot accounts exposed nearly 700,000 people to misinformation during the 2016 campaign.

Nunes’ tweet was especially strange in light of today’s Twitter news, in which it has been reported that the social media giant conducted a “purge” of sorts, eliminating many more bot accounts and instituting strict limits on how many times a single user can retweet information.

In other news, the president still has not allowed the release of the Democratic response memo.
