Outgoing VA Secretary David Shulkin confirmed on MSNBC tonight that he spoke with President Trump yesterday, before he was fired, and the President didn’t mention at all what was coming.
Chris Hayes asked Shulkin when was the last time he spoke to Trump. Shulkin said they actually spoke yesterday “about the progress that I was making, what I needed to do from a policy perspective.”
“He was very inquisitive about the things we were working on, making sure that we were focused on the job at hand,” he added.
Hayes bewilderedly asked, “He made no mention of the fact that he was about to terminate you?”
Shulkin said, “That’s correct.”
He ultimately found out he was fired later from a brief call from John Kelly, shortly before Trump’s tweet.
