President Donald Trump apparently couldn’t wait until Monday morning’s episode of Fox & Friends to express his outrage at the White House Correspondents Dinner monologue, delivered with acerbic disdain by comedian Michelle Wolf.
The speech, in which Wolf brutally lampooned Sarah Huckabee Sanders for her dishonesty as the White House press secretary sat feet away on the dais, received rebukes from many members of the media who attended the dinner.
Trump, who skipped the dinner again this year, did not watch it on his massive television screen. Instead, he delivered one of his trademark rallies in Michigan, in which he took time to bash the dinner thrown by the White House Correspondents Association as “phony.”
After a day of Wolf taking criticism from various stuffy members of the prestige press, Trump weighed in on Sunday night.
“The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a failure last year, but this year was an embarrassment to everyone associated with it,” the president tweeted. “The filthy ‘comedian’ totally bombed (couldn’t even deliver her lines-much like the Seth Meyers weak performance).”
Trump is referring here to Seth Meyers’ devastating roast of him from 2011, which apparently still burns.
“Put Dinner to rest, or start over!” Trump declared.
