On Saturday, Sen. Jeff Flake tweeted out a photo showing Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, George W. Bush, Laura Bush, and Bill Clinton attending Sen. John McCain‘s funeral.
He wrote: “Decency wins.”

Flake’s tweet was a not so subtle jab at President Donald Trump who was not invited to McCain’s funeral, at the request of McCain himself, who made the arrangements months ago.
In contrast, both former presidents Bush and Obama were asked to give eulogies for McCain despite the fact both men were at one point McCain’s political opponents.
In addition to not attending McCain’s funeral, Trump — who also did not attend Barbara Bush‘s funeral — has not yet spoken at a single funeral since moving into the Oval Office, according to Gerhard Peters, a political-science professor, as quoted in the Washington Post.
McCain’s decision to have both Bush and Obama eulogize him — both men who defeated him in an attempt to win the White House — was dubbed “historic” by WaPo, who noted that the last time something similar happened was at the funeral of Ronald Reagan.
