Greg Gutfeld called Sen. Claire McCaskill a “lying idiot” on Fox News Friday after the Missouri Democrat mocked his recurring “animals are great” segment.
McCaskill — whose ten-year career in the Senate is set to come to an end in January after losing her bid for re-election — tweeted this on Thursday mocking Fox News for running Gutfeld’s playful segment while other cable news networks covered the Michael Cohen news:
This is 6 pm eastern on the three major cable news networks. You just can’t make this up. Seriously. pic.twitter.com/MCRYoWgRrn

Gutfeld fired back on the air Friday, accusing McCaskill of trying to “trick people.”
“She tweeted three segments from CNN, MSNBC and Fox News, showing coverage, I guess, of the Mueller probe, and they showed ‘animals are great,’ with the idea that that’s what we were covering,” Gutfeld said. “Instead, the fact that we led the show yesterday on the Mueller probe, and that Claire McCaskill is, in fact, a lying idiot.”
The Five spent the first segment of Thursday’s show covering the Mueller probe news. The “animals are great” segment came at the end of the 5 p.m. show.
Gutfeld tweeted out a rebuke of McCaskill as well:
Oh Claire. We led with this topic. You deceptively chose the last minute of the show where we do fun stuff. Loser! https://t.co/AVe3QzNaET
