CNN’s Symone Sanders on Trump’s Claim He’d Confront Shooter: ‘He Was Afraid of a Bald Eagle’

CNN political commentator Symone Sanders got testy tonight during a panel with Anderson Cooper while addressing President Donald Trump’s recent claim that he would have run in, unarmed, to confront Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooter Nikolas Cruz.

It all started as the panel discussed the president’s recent backtrack of his proposal to raise the minimum age to purchase an assault rifle to 21, asking whether or not he was acquiescing to the demands of the NRA.

That’s when Sanders started in on her frustration with the whole “good guy with a gun” idea.

“These our are kids,” she said. “Look, I think this is a bunch of BS that a good guy with a gun is the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun.”

Then she went in on Trump’s claims that he would have run in to stop the shooter.

“The fact is the matter is fact, the president wasn’t running in nowhere to stop anything because he got scared of a bald eagle on his desk when he was doing an interview,” she said. “We have to talk about banning, in my opinion, weapons of war in our everyday lives.”

Sanders was likely talking about this infamous video of Trump, taken during a Time photoshoot, being scared off by a bald eagle.

Sanders went to say that she was an avid turkey hunter when she was younger, but still sees no need for weapons such as an AR-15.
