Parkland Student Sends Message to Trump: ‘You’re Avoiding Us’

Parkland student Sofie Whitney, on a bus with classmates to Tallahassee to meet with lawmakers, spoke directly to President Trump this afternoon.

CNN’s Jake Tapper brought the news to her of President Trump calling for the DOJ to ban bump stocks. Whitney said, “Obviously that’s a step forward, but there’s still so much more to be done. Because even though that would have stopped deaths in Las Vegas, it still wouldn’t have helped when it came to my school.”

Tapper noted how the President sometimes watches cable news and asked Whitney if she has a message for Trump if he’s listening.

“President Trump,” she said, “I think that it’s really important that you listen to us, because are your constituents, you are working for us. And kids are dead. And you’re avoiding us. I’d really like to talk to you.”

Tapper alluded to some of the disgusting conspiracy theories being spread around about some of the students and even brought up what Jack Kingston said this morning about the students being liberal pawns.

Whitney called all of that “insensitive” and said, “I can’t fathom how people have a mindset like that.”

President Trump is scheduled to have a listening session tomorrow with students, parents, and teachers. Per today’s White House briefing, people affected by Sandy Hook and Columbine will be in attendance as well.
