Sarah Sanders on Trump’s Relationship with the Press: Reporters Could Show a ‘Level of Respect’ Too

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders spoke at a White House Correspondents Association event tonight and criticized the press for the way they cover the Trump administration.

The timing of the event was an interesting one, given how today was the first White House briefing in a week––meaning she got asked about everything from the Florida shooting to the latest Russia news to pretty much everything else that’s happened.

Huckabee Sanders criticized how sometimes networks will cut away from other people she brings to briefings to speak first, basically saying it’s a blow against substance.

“There is a level of responsibility that comes with being a journalist,” she continued, saying there are journalists who “put out misleading information” and that’s a problem.

Mike McCurry, who served as press secretary under Bill Clinton, challenged her a little on the White House waging a “war” against the press, telling her Trump has to “change the way he talks about the media.”

He talked about Trump not showing the right “level of respect.”

Huckabee Sanders responded, “There is a two-way street… a level of respect that could be, I think, certainly be brought from the press corps as well.”
