Ex-Trump Aide Sam Nunberg: If He Really Colluded With Russia, POTUS ‘Wouldn’t Be Able to Keep His Mouth Shut’

A former Donald Trump aide is pushing the ignorance defense as it relates to the idea of collusion between the president and Russia.

In an interview with Ari Melber Wednesday, Sam Nunberg threw cold water on an NBC News report that special counsel Robert Mueller may suspect that Trump had advance knowledge of the stolen DNC emails prior to their publication by Wikileaks.

Nunberg’s reasoning? The president could never keep a secret like that.

“I think you’d be giving Donald Trump too much credit,” Nunberg said. “I think if Vladimir Putin had a plot like this, he wouldn’t involve Donald Trump, because Donald Trump wouldn’t be able to keep his mouth shut about it.”

Melber followed up on the candid statement from an ex-Trump employee.

“You’re saying Donald Trump, in your view, is innocent because he would be such a sloppy co-conspirator.”

Nunberg hesitated, and then laughed.

“You said it like that,” Nunberg said. “I’ll say it this way – that I think Vladimir Putin would be too careful.”
