Trevor Noah gave a very tongue-in-cheek statement on Monday night while he addressed the commotion Michelle Wolf caused at the White House Correspondents Dinner three days ago.
The Daily Show host started things off with a sarcastic monologue about how comedy is all about “being polite and respecting authority.” He followed up with an equally-snarky review of Wolf’s critics (“Michelle roasted these people so hard they wanted police protection”) before reminding people about all of the personal attacks that President Trump has made about women in the past.
“See? Now that’s how you insult a woman’s face. Michelle’s joke was about how Sarah Sanders creates makeup out of lies. When Trump insults a women, he just says ‘fat ugly face.’ None of that smart comedy with layers of meaning, just insults, that’s why you don’t send a woman to do a man’s job.”
As Noah called out the pro-Trump people who excused his insulting remarks as jokes in the past, he topped it off by saying that president’s defenders are absolutely right: comedians should be held to a higher standard than Trump.
Even though Wolf no longer works for The Daily Show, Noah decided to give her the only kind of farewell Trump knows how to deliver.
“Michelle, you’re fired!”
Aside from her work on The Daily Show, Wolf also worked on Late Night, and Seth Meyers came to her defense on Monday night as well.
