Tucker Carlson Cuts Off Interview After Professor Says He Profits Off of ‘Race Baiting’

Tucker Carlson invited University of Louisville professor Ricky Jones on his program tonight to discuss race. Like many Tucker Carlson conversations on the subject — things went around in circles before inevitably meeting a fruitless end.

The conversation began when Carlson asked Jones about an opinion piece he recently wrote in which he quoted James Baldwin, who once said White Americans are “moral monsters.” The professor defended his piece, saying that in full context, it was meant to examine whether or not Baldwin was correct in a national, racial sense.

Carlson responded by asking Jones why Baldwin’s statement is not the same as a piece that “described black people as moral monsters?”

“You would rightly call that racist,” Carlson said.

Jones accused Carlson of changing the argument, and when he noted the historical oppression of black people in America, the Fox News host accused him of abetting racism.

“If I wrote ‘why are so many black Americans so brutal and inhumane’ – which I would never write – how you would you respond? Wouldn’t you say ‘you’re a racist?’ As you clearly are.”

The conversation continued with Carlson accusing Jones of not answering his questions, and Jones saying Carlson was being “racially insensitive” and ignoring the broader context of his piece. Eventually, Carlson got fed up with what he deemed to be non-answers, and he asked Jones how much money he makes as a university professor.

Jones responded by throwing the question right back at Carlson:

I don’t make nearly as much as you are with the race-baiting that you do. I would trade my salary for yours anyday.

Carlson continued to snark through Jones’ accusations of race-baiting before abruptly ending the conversation.
