In an interview that aired on Sunday night on 60 Minutes, Sen. Chris Coons and Sen. Jeff Flake sat down with Scott Pelley to discuss the dramatic turn of events that led to Flake calling for an FBI probe into the allegations facing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
At one point, Flake admitted that if he had been seeking re-election there was “not a chance” he would have been able to call for the probe.
Then, in another telling moment, 60 Minutes‘ Pelley asked the Senators what would happen if the FBI probe reveals evidence that Kavanaugh lied.
“If Judge Kavanaugh is shown to have lied to the committee, nomination’s over?” Pelley asked.
“Oh, yes,” Flake said.
“I would think so,” Coons agreed.
On Friday, after conferencing with Coons, Flake called for the FBI probe into Kavanaugh ultimately leading to the White House ordering the investigation into the allegations made against the Supreme Court nominee.
