Kicking off a panel discussion Thursday on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s lengthy probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, CNN’s Jake Tapper gave President Donald Trump an ominous message.
“It’s snowing in Washington, D.C. today,” Tapper said. “Yes, Mr. President, winter is coming.”
The anchor then cited the commander in chief’s rage-filled tweet earlier that morning, claiming “the inner workings of the Mueller investigation are a total mess.”
Political analyst Jackie Kucinich told Tapper that could be an indication of Trump’s mindset as he prepares to submit answers to Mueller’s questions.
“We know he’s going through the questions from Mueller, and it seems like he’s walking down memory lane, and he doesn’t like the scenery, and so that might explain why we’re seeing the throwbacks to the campaign and to his old material in these tweets,” she said.
David Urban, a former senior adviser to the Trump campaign, said he wasn’t quite sure what was going on, but that with regard to the investigation, he could “only imagine that kind of behind the scenes it’s kind of winding down.”
“I can only imagine the things that are running through his mind and so he’s venting,” Urban added, citing turbulence with Trump’s former associates and controversy over Facebook’s handling of Russian misinformation ahead of the election.
