During Wednesday night’s show, Stephen Colbert accused President Donald Trump of anti-intellectual property theft and comedy bit thievery.
The comedian started off by quoting Trump’s recent interview in the Washington Post.
“I’m not happy with the fed. They’re making a mistake, because I have a gut, and my gut tells me more sometimes than anybody else’s brain can ever tell me,” Colbert read in his Trumpian voice, reading Trump’s actual words as published by WaPo.
Colbert then pointed out that when he played a conservative pundit he said the same thing.
“Trump stole my bit!” he exclaimed after playing the clip from his old show which indeed talked of trusting his gut.
“That’s copyright infringement,” the late night host continued on. “So tonight, I am officially announcing that I am suing Donald J. Trump for stealing my old character.”
Then speaking directly to the president, Colbert said: “You better lawyer up, buddy! And somebody better than Rudy Giuliani, too!”
