President Donald Trump left the protective press pool behind at the National Christmas Tree Lighting on Wednesday.
The protective press pool is the group of reporters assigned to remain with the president and document his activities.
They noted early Wednesday evening that Trump had gone back the White House without them.
“The White House abandoned the press pool at the Christmas tree lighting. Trump is allegedly back at the White House,” AP’s Zeke Miller wrote on Twitter.
He added: “The protective press pool exists to be in close proximity to the president in the event of an emergency and to document his movements for history. Can do neither at the moment.”

Anita Kumar of McClatchy who is also a White House Correspondents’ Association Board Member also tweeted.
I am the White House print pooler tonight. That means I am supposed to be with @POTUS. Instead, I and the rest of the pool, were left at an event while POTUS returned to the White House.

Steve Herman of Voice of America likewise noted that no explanation was given.
The @WhiteHouse staff works in concert with @SecretService to ensure the pool is always in the @POTUS motorcade. Poolers serve as the eyes and ears for the rest of the media. Usually it goes without a hitch, but something went amiss this evening and we've had no explanation.

Olivier Knox, the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) said later it was the result of a “logistical glitch.”
However, it is not the first time Trump has left his protective pool behind.
While President-elect, Trump left behind his protective pool to play golf and also for a steak dinner in Manhattan.
