President Donald Trump will not be traveling to Florida to ring in 2019 due to the shutdown.
Acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney announced the decision on Fox News on Friday.
“He’s staying in Washington, D.C., over New Year’s,” he said. “He’s canceled his plans for Christmas. Now, he’s canceled his plans for New Year’s.”
Trump — who was slated to travel to Mar-a-Lago on Dec. 21 — remained at the White House while First Lady Melania Trump and their son traveled to Florida.
Trump tweeted on Christmas Eve, “I am all alone (poor me) in the White House.”
I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security. At some point the Democrats not wanting to make a deal will cost our Country more money than the Border Wall we are all talking about. Crazy!

Mrs. Trump returned to DC later that day, where both she and Trump answered calls for NORAD. The Trumps then made a surprise visit to the troops in Iraq to round out their Christmas holiday.
The First Lady returned to Mar-a-Lago on Thursday to be with her son.
Tickets for New Year’s Eve celebrations at Mar-a-Lago cost $1000 per person, according to the Palm Beach Post. The Post reported that after the news hit that Trump would not be there, members and guests were talking about skipping the posh gala.
“People are bailing,” a source told the Palm Beach Post. “It’s a lot of money (to spend) without his celebrity.”
