Tapper Presses Trump Adviser on Herman Cain Sexual Misconduct Accusations: ‘You Didn’t Answer the Question’

Senior Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow faced some uncomfortable grilling over Herman Cain, Donald Trump‘s pick for the Federal Reserve, and the history of sexual misconduct allegations against him. Cain, that is.

On Sunday morning’s edition of CNN’s State of the Union, Tapper played a clip from Cain accuser Sharon Bialek‘s 2011 press conference, during which she made an accusation that would become much more familiar-sounding in subsequent years.

During that press conference, Bialek said that Cain “suddenly reached over and he put his hand on my leg under my skirt and reached for my genitals,” behavior which closely matches the description that Trump bragged about in the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape.

Taper noted that there were “at least four women with claims like this,” that “Cain denies they’re true,” and asked Kudlow “Doesn’t this trouble you?”

After a pause, Kudlow said “We are going through a vetting process in the White House. I’m sure the Senate banking committee will do likewise. There’s big disputes here. Mr. Cain disagrees with this point of view. I’m not going to litigate that here.”

“It’s four women, not just one,” Tapper pressed.

“Lord knows, in this town, I come here to work in the White House every 35 years,” Kudlow said. “It’s very toxic here. More than I’ve ever seen.”

“Larry, nobody has made allegations like this about you or me,” Tapper said.

“That’s true,” Kudlow said. “We’re on the road to heaven. No question about it.”

“You know what I’m saying,” Tapper said.

Kudlow replied that allegations of this sort “don’t necessarily pan out,” and pivoted to talking points about the economy.

“I’m saying we have two open seats on the board. The president has every right in the world to nominate people who share his economic philosophy,” he concluded.

“You didn’t answer the question, necessarily, about those allegations troubling you or not,” Taper noted, before moving on to discuss another topic.
