Adam Schiff: ‘More Than Fair’ to Say Trump ‘Unpredictability’ Helped Bring North Korea to the Table

Congressman Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intel Committee, conceded this morning that President Trump deserves some credit for how North Korea talks are panning out.

Jon Karl asked, “Doesn’t the president deserve… at least partial credit for what we’re seeing unfold on the Korean Peninsula?”

“I think it’s more than fair,” Schiff responded, “to say that the combination of the president’s unpredictability and indeed, his bellicosity had something to do with the North Koreans deciding to come to the table.”

However, he did say the President may want to be cautious about getting out “the mission accomplished banner,” because things may still “go south” and “he may not want the full blame.”

“When things do become confrontational,” Schiff continued, “as is likely to happen, it’s going to be very important that we are lashed up with our allies, South Korea and Japan. Otherwise, North Korea will pick us apart. And this president isn’t particularly good about lashing up with our allies.”
