Comedian Michelle Wolf has gotten mixed reviews of her performance at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, but her jokes have certainly prompted journalists to speak out, debating whether the laughs went too far.
ABC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl said they did. He condemned Wolf’s remarks on the network Sunday, saying it was more than just jokes.
“I think that the comedian crossed the line, and this went from poking fun to being mean-spirited,” Karl said. “It was very uncomfortable.”
However, he added that Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, who found herself the punchline of jokes about her press briefings, her makeup and her name, took things surprisingly well.
“I think that Sarah Sanders handled herself very well considering what was coming her way, and I think that most people in that room were uncomfortable, were uncomfortable with the direction of the jokes, no question at all, and certainly the only thing it will do is result in probably more goodwill for Sarah Sanders because nobody should have to sit through that,” Karl said.
