John Dean: ‘It Could Be an Act of Obstruction’ if Team Trump Leaked Mueller’s Questions to NYT

John Dean suggested that Donald Trump‘s legal team might’ve committed a form of “obstruction” by leaking of Robert Mueller‘s list of questions for the president.

The New York Times has obtained a list containing dozens of questions that the special counsel wants to ask about the ongoing investigation into Russia’s 2016 election-meddling. As Anderson Cooper reviewed the questions on CNN, Dean joined him over the phone and said he was struck by the possibility that Team Trump let Mueller’s questions go public in order to find out how they’d be received.

“The very fact that the questions are out there – my first reaction suggesting that it could be an act of obstruction just to have released these questions,” the former Nixon White House counsel said. “To try to somehow disrupt the flow of information, the tipping off of witnesses in advance to what the question was going to be…it appears to me more that these are questions somebody wrote down after listening to someone else than necessarily the questions that were designed by the prosecutors.”

As Dean explained his reasoning, Michael Zeldin said he was “probably” right in terms of how the Mueller questions are open-ended inquiries on various topics.
