The media was barred from attending Television Academy event honoring Samantha Bee Thursday night, according to multiple reports by members of the media planning to attend.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that they had planned to attend but were told they were no longer allowed as a result of “today’s events.”
Though The Hollywood Reporter was initially slated to cover both the 6:45 p.m. red carpet and reception, media was told by a Television Academy rep at 3:35 p.m. that press would not be allowed into the reception “as a result of today’s events involving Samantha B.,” leading to “the need to limit access to tonight’s activities.”
The event referred to was, of course, Bee’s now infamous remarks regarding Ivanka Trump and subsequent apology.
Bee later apologized and said she “crossed a line.”
However, it seems that the Television Academy wasn’t taking any chances with their 11th annual honors at NeueHouse Hollywood and took last minute action to make sure that the press would not have access to Bee at the reception and ceremony.
Deadline also reported that members of the press were blocked from the evening event and noted Bee still plans to attend.
“While members of the press are permitted to cover the red carpet, they will not have access to the actual cocktail reception/ceremony, which is taking place at the NeueHouse Hollywood,” Deadline wrote about the change of plans. “As far as Deadline has been informed at this very [last] minute, Bee is still attending to pick up her honor tonight. TBD on whether she skips the red carpet.”
