A CNN panel erupted after Former Trump campaign aide Steve Cortes sparred with CNN correspondent Joan Walsh, defending the president’s reluctance to call out Roseanne Barr‘s racist Twitter tirade.
In a Thursday evening discussion on Erin Burnett‘s Out Front segment, Cortes argued that comedian Samantha Bee‘s Wednesday insult of President Donald Trump‘s daughter, Ivanka Trump, was far more out of line.
“Samantha Bee said something probably even worse, and so far, no sanction on her,” Cortes said. “This is the double standard the left at play.”
In response, Walsh contended that Trump has failed “a crisis of racism in our country that he has helped promote,” likening his quest for an apology from ABC to that of “a whiny bully.”
Cortes then attempted a rebuttal by attacking Walsh’s discussion of racism.
“When you don’t want to talk policies, you resort to racism — it’s become the scarlet letter. It’s no longer the ‘A’ of Hester Prynne, it’s the ‘R.'”
Following the network’s cancellation of Roseanne, Trump took to Twitter to unleash his residual anger over former ABC News correspondent Brian Ross who was penalized for reporting a false story on his administration.
On that matter, Walsh said the president “needs to get thicker skin.”
