Former NBC News and Fox News anchor Linda Vester blasted NBC in a Fox News appearance tonight for not doing nearly enough to address issues of sexual harassment at the network.
Matt Lauer was fired one year ago yesterday, and in the intervening time NBC News announced the results of an internal investigation that was criticized as insufficient. Vester––who came forward earlier this year alleging she was sexually harassed by Tom Brokaw––said at the time the investigation was “deeply flawed.”
Tonight she made it clear to Tucker Carlson that her opinion hasn’t changed.
“The truth wasn’t in there,” she said. “At least six women who were victimized by Matt Lauer… were never interviewed, and they had damaging details about Lauer, about others in management who allegedly protected them. Nothing happened. They weren’t spoken to properly.”
She called out NBC News chairman Andy Lack in particular, who was the subject of a damning report two months ago about a culture of sexual harassment under his leadership. Vester asked if this is about his own conduct or if “he just wanted to protect other high-profile men.”
Vester––who also wrote an opinion piece for FoxNews.com on the culture at NBC News––said the Comcast board of directors should get involved and “cannot get away with burying their heads in the sand.” She said they should investigate “all of the alleged predators at NBC News.”
Vester is taking out an ad in the New York Times tomorrow appealing directly to the board of directors to act.
