Stacey Abrams Admits Defeat in GA Gov Race But Says ‘This Is Not a Speech of Concession’

Stacey Abrams, the Democratic candidate for governor in Georgia, delivered a speech today acknowledging her Republican opponent Brian Kemp will be certified as the winner of the election, but she was very deliberate in saying she was not conceding.

“I acknowledge that former secretary of state Brian Kemp will be certified as the victor… but to watch an elected official who claims to represent the people in this state baldly pin his hopes hopes for election on the suppression of the people’s democratic right to vote has been truly appalling. So let’s be clear. This is not a speech of concession. Because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true, or proper. As a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede that. But my assessment is the law currently allows no further viable remedy.”

She railed against the election process and said there were mistakes that “clearly altered the outcome.” At one point Abrams said she would file a federal lawsuit challenging “gross mismanagement” of the elections.
