Attacking comedian Michelle Wolf‘s routine at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, ex-White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci called the evening’s show “an atrocity.”
Appearing on CNN’s Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter, Scaramucci raised strong criticism of Wolf’s speech, which took aim at a number of White House staffers and media personalities and has since stirred up controversy.
Speaking with Stelter about the media’s approach to the dinner, Scaramucci said, “I think what you guys are missing is you think it’s totally okay to take a cheese grater to somebody’s face, grate their face, drop the cheese grater and say, ‘Geez, part of your job is to have the right side of your face bleeding.”
But amid the talk of cheese graters to the face, Scaramucci got in a dig at both Michelle Wolf and Michael Wolf.
“What happened last night was an atrocity and it was like literally watching Michael Wolff with a wig on,” he said. “I thought Michelle Wolf was Michael Wolff, actually.”
The ousted communications director known for his less-than-two-week stint in the White House, has added his voice to those calling for an apology from the White House Correspondents’ Association, which he thinks could smooth over tensions. He added, “I think the hostilities need to be deescalated on both sides. It’s not just the White House.”
